A third of UK alcoholic drinks fail to inform consumers of the official guidance on low risk drinking guidelines three years after the agreed deadline, said a survey published by the Alcohol Health Alliance.
âIt is unacceptable, that almost three years after the deadline agreed by the Government and alcohol industry, one in three products still fail to display the CMOsâ guidelines. Self-regulation is not working,â the
report said.
Consumers are denied other key information too, 80% of labels do not provide a full list of ingrediemts and 59% omit calories, while 97% do not offer any kind of health warning.
Critics say voluntary scheme will inevitably fail when founded on a conflict of interest. In this case alcohol suppliers are concerned that informing consumers about their products may reduce sales.
